Dave Stetson workshop

The North Platte Woodcarvers hosted a 3 day Dave Stetson workshop in May of 1999. A sitting cowboy was the project along with a rifle.

Along with carving instruction, Dave taught face and body proportions and tried to teach everyone to be more observant of other people, animals and our surroundings. Daves philosophy is what's on the floor doesn't matter and its not how big you make the hole but how much wood you need to leave around the hole.

The class worked from a rough out and by the end of the third day no one had finished but everyone was well on their way to knowing how to finish. Dave has a companion piece to this carving and we hope to bring him back to give a class on this piece.
